Cache is cleared manually from Admmin menu -> Tools -> Clean Cache. Some components eg. "Content" clears automatically when changes are done, but I've never noticed them to clear other extensions folders. Images in subdirectories of cache were always left untouched, if not cleared manually...

heh, I've already done about 40% of first option Stuck on probably most important part, getting params work, but working on solving this. Will send You modifications, when done, so You could decide if use it or not.

This should be easy to do (same way as images).
Folder names are used as album names in front end, witch doesn't look good and might cause errors witch some special chars. Adding folder Titles, descriptions and priority would give ability to use any national chars You wish and multi language support.

Next idea: Option to define "default/fullsize" image dimensions, and HD-large image. "Fullsize" (eg. 800px x 600px) would be used as a default image in popups. HD-large could be "bigger image" option like in http://www.no-margin-for-errors.com/projects/prettyphoto-jquer...
