Hi all,

I just installed Admiror Gallery and tried to set it up.
I just got a few problems to get it to work. After i out the {ag}space{/ag} in an aticle i get this message.

Code: Select all

Admiror Gallery cannot create thumbnails in /home/deb48661/domains/ewoudbakker.com/public_html/plugins/content/AdmirorGallery/thumbs/space/
Check folder permmisions!
Admiror Gallery: 3.0
Server OS:Apache/2
Client OS:Windows NT 4.0
PHP:5.2.17
So i set all my folders and files to 777 to see if it works after that and it doesn't. I have no idea how to fix this.
(searched the forum but didn't find anything about it)

It tried a few thing like different folders and fiddling with the settings but it didn't help.

on another gallery {ag}portraits{/ag} it gives a lot more errors.

Code: Select all

Well it still look's like the permissions are the problem because if you try to go to : http://www.ewoudbakker.com/images/stori ... trait1.jpg
You will get

Code: Select all

You don't have permission to access /images/stories/portrait/selfportrait1.jpg on this server.
that is the reason for this error:

Code: Select all

Warning: filemtime() [function.filemtime]: stat failed for /home/deb48661/domains/ewoudbakker.com/public_html/images/stories/portrait/portrait.jpg in /home/deb48661/domains/ewoudbakker.com/public_html/plugins/content/AdmirorGallery/classes/agHelper.php on line 27
Scripts is trying to access the file to get the create time, for sorting.

First change permission for "portrait" folder to 777, then manually add a folder in "plugins/content/AdmirorGallery/thumbs/" called "portrait" and add a blank file with the name of some picture, for example "sanne.jpg" and apply 777 permissions to all.
This should enable AdmirorGallery to access the file and create a thumbnail.

K done that but doesn't solve the tumb problem the other errors are gone.

It's prolly a fluke in Joomla got all permissions to 777, I'll do a fresh install. of the whole thing.

It looks like something is wrong with images/ folder permissions. How did You add these images? Manually, through FTP?

Hi I'm having the same problem.

It is only working if I set the folders of the gallery in images/stories and plugins/content/admirorgallery to 777.
This is a problem for users and a safety issue

Folders that are created are created under apache user and not ftp user maybe that has something to do with it. I am using ftp layer though

I create and upload images with your component
I installed with Jooma installer

How can I create a gallery and upload foto's without changing the permissions?

Component Version: 3.0.180
Plugin Version: 3.1.0
Joomla 1.5.23

Hi,

I had the same issue. I solved this in a somewhat unconventional way, I do not recommend this to everyone, but here's a write-up anyway, maybe it helps someone somewhere.

I was originally running Joomla 1.5.11 and upgraded to 1.5.25 thinking it would help. It did not. In both cases I was not getting any thumbnails at all, eventhough the permissions on that directory from the error message were correct (what I am saying here is: the error message can be misleading). I have not debugged this through methodically, so the following probably isn't very helpful to the devs, but the gist is: these issues are definetly rooted in the ftp layer. I did have a working Joomla ftp layer, but this component seemed to have permission problems while creating thumbnails due to some files or directories (I didn't identify them however) in the Joomla tree belonging to "apache", and some belonging to my ftp layer user (and probably most being mod 755).

I also had issues then with the ftp layer while uninstalling and reinstalling this component, at one point I had to manually remove an admiro* directory before I could successfully reinstall, and then I was later unable to reinstall at all, just getting a "error -1, file could not be created" message with nothing else useful in the logs. At that point I tried installing from the unzipped .zip file, and looking at that it seems that not all files were installed. For instance, in the zip file there is com_admirorgallery_3/editors-xtd/* (two files and a directory), which are all listed in the component .xml, but didn't seem to get installed anywhere into my web tree (according to "find") due to permission issues related to the split user accounting with the ftp layer. Sorry I have no more details, I can't backtrace all the stuff I tried.

What I did then is however the solution for all ftp layer issues of this kind (because frankly I was getting fed up with the ftp layer in Joomla in general), but this has security implications that everyone has to evaluate for themselves. I made the ftp layer account the same as the web server account. Et voila: Thumbnails instantly working.

If you should even consider this however, be warned, this might make your system vulnurable. My precautions here are a) renaming the apache account into a not easily guessable username (chown the entire web tree, change apache config "user" and "group" statements, all that), b) give it a strong password, c) do NOT give it a shell but /sbin/nologin instead, and, probably most importantly, firewall FTP off for only your own administrative source IP address. Nevertheless, you have been warned that if someone hacks that FTP account, he'll be able to mess up he entire web tree.

Thats all. I'll now go play with my new nice gallery with thumbnails. Thanks for an otherwise great component (I would not have messed arround trying it to work so much if I didn't think its very good once it runs ;)

Cheers

I fixed this by changing line 73 in /plugins/content/AdmirorGallery.php from

JFolder::create($AG->thumbsFolderPhysicalPath, 0755);

to

JFolder::create($AG->thumbsFolderPhysicalPath, 0777);

I'm not sure how safe it is but at least I don't have to set folder permissions each time I add a new gallery ;-)

I never used FTP layer with Joomla, so I can confirm that we didn't test Admiror Gallery when FTP layer.

But also no one mentioned that they were using FTP layer until now :) Thanks to jsark for great explanation.
